our story

We have been told that tilkah has several meanings; however, the one we like best was told to us by the sweetest little Russian lady saying that it means “one of a kind.”

In April 2003, feeling that there was a very limited offer in the marketplace of unique, stylish & beautiful accessories, we decided to open up our first boutique at Highpoint Shopping Centre, Melbourne.

We had always envisaged both a name and a logo that would encapsulate the femininity of the brand & set out to create a shabby, playful, interactive environment where women could feel like girls again.

Whilst all our boutiques have a distinct, fluid tilkah look with chandeliers, feature lighting, vintage wallpaper & antique merchandising pieces they are all also very unique in their own right. However, our intention will always be to create an environment where our customers feel like they are entering the female equivalent of a little candy store brimming with treasures.

Four stores later in highly sought after fashion destinations; including Chadstone & Northland Shopping Centres & Chapel Street, South Yarra, we certainly feel like our vision is being realised.

From very humble beginnings where staff used to individually write the name of the company on every carry bag, tilkah has grown into a successful business & is now starting to etch itself into Melbourne’s very fashionable landscape.
